My Secret Garden
Stitched by Vickie vL
This is My Secret Garden by Nicole Gelinas. Again, I added some mods. I added some Swarovski crystals in the water falls for sparkle. I didn’t like the water lilies that Nicole had in the pond, so I used Swarovski pearls for lily buds. Since my garden always has dragon flies, I added one of them. If you look closely, you’ll find the turtle climbing on the rocks. Our oldest has 2 turtles. Mom and I decided that I would take this EAC seminar class just before she passed so I had to add a bunny as Mom loved watching the bunnies play in the driveway.
Hummingbird in Silk & Gold
Stitched by Susan O.
This little hummingbird, done in goldwork and silk shading, was designed and taught by Lizzy Pye and was offered as an EGA online course in 2024. This was my first experience in using metal threads in my embroidery and it was a fun project to stitch with the bright silk threads and all the goldwork bling. It is one of my favorite projects ever!
Opulent Amulet and Fanciful Earrings
Stitched by Kathleen Sielski
The designer is Amee K Sweet-McNamara who formerly had website, Amee Runs with Scissors, which closed down in 2023. These pieces were made from kits, but I don't remember the colorway. However, Opulent Amulet is in one of Amy's books: Elegant Soutache (ISBN 978-1454709176). It's a great book with step-by-step photos and 12 projects beside the detailed basics section.
The earrings were the project in Designers Across America in the June 2016 issue of Needle Arts.
Pandas in the Forest
Stitched by Jane Kwiecinski
This was purchased on a trip to China, so the designer is unknown. It was a painted canvas, stitched with a variegated pearl cotton, and wool. Jane said, "On my first visit to China, the guide insisted that no one did any needlework despite my seeing handwork everywhere. (Heck, even the duvets on the train and airplane seat covers were embroidered!) Eventually, I found the needlework section of a domestic department store and was able to select several canvases. This one is unusual because I couldn't find a suitable green suite of colors in the right weight. One shop suggested that I pair a variegated pearl cotton with a middling green wool to give me the coverage I wanted, while making the background color changes more subtle. I loved the effect! This is one of my favorite pieces.
