This silk ribbon embroidery class was offered by the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild in November 2023 and taught by Debbie Mitek. It was stitched on 18-count vintage sandstone canvas using WIldflowers, Watercolours, Straw Silk, Rainbow Gallery's Petite Silk Lamé, Entice, and Sparkle, along with silk ribbon from Treenway, various beads.
While I got the background barely started during class, the demonstrations were so clear, it was easy to complete on my own. The only problem was planning the arc so the petals were uniform in length. I ripped out my first attempt, ordered more silk ribbon, and took it to Arkansas when I went for a month to babysit my grandson, but I was still struggling with the arc! AND my son-in-law is an architect who had just the tool and geometry skills to draw the perfect arc. Problem solved!
This is a Betsy Morgan design that appeared in Inspirations magazine (#122). I purchased the kit from Inspirations, which contained the called-for silk fibers and 36-count linen. Stitches include double running, satin, Smyrna cross, 4-sided stitch, long-arm cross, Florentine, and some whitework. I love that the sampler is horizontal, rather than vertical. She just called to me when I saw her picture in the magazine!
